(its the strength i never had that you're asking of me)

Born in Saratoga Springs, NY and raised in Wethersfield, CT, Kate's musical influences began at birth. A music/theater major at Skidmore College, her mother would sing and play piano at home often and Kate paid close attention. She started her own piano playing at age 5, followed by chorus and violin lessons at age 8. The violin lasted only 3 years, but singing became Kate's main extracurricular focus. She participated in choirs and choruses, including select school choirs through high school. At The Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT, Kate was introduced to a cappella singing as well as musical theater. She played a merry murderess in Chicago for her first stage role and one year later held the role of Tuptim in The King and I under the stage direction of David Nields and vocal direction of Mark Gottschalk. She studied voice privately with Gottschalk, a regional opera performer, and also found time to study piano privately.
At Colgate University, Kate found an opportunity to continue her performance training while majoring in French Literature. She spent 4 years with the college's co-ed a cappella group, The Resolutions, 2 years with the college chorus and also worked on her theater presence by appearing as Gertrude in Hamlet, directed by Kari Nielsen and supervised by David Pinner, and featuring Kieran Campion as Hamlet. While at Colgate, Kate also was introduced to the guitar and studied with local folk-rock musician Ed Vollmer.

Upon graduating from Colgate in May of 1999, Kate relocated to New York City where in early 2000 she began singing with 6-person vocal band Verbal Smack. Her career there lasted about a year before she moved to Boston, where she currently resides and studies Vocal Performance at Berklee College of Music. In Boston, Kate has been performing as a vocalist with 6-person vocal band 6Appeal since March of 2004, and with the Laura Glyda Band from August of 2004 through February of 2005.
Kate considers her main influences to be powerful and sultry vocalists such as Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Jonatha Brooke and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
